Tanjungpura University was established on May 20, 1959 as a private university with the name of the University by the National Resources Foundation Resources National Universities. Teachers at the first stand is the baccalaureate degree and who have in the area of West Kalimantan. University of National Resources and the State University of dinegerikan become Pontianak (UNEP) based on the SK Ministry of PTIP Tax 53 1963, dated 16 May 1963.
In accordance with the development of political and statesman in 1965, changed its name to UNEP Dwikora University on 14 September 1965.
Next, with the decree the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 171 of 1961 dated 15 August 1967, the name change is set back from the University of Dwikora become Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) who eventually survived until now. Until now, UNTAN has 8 faculties with education level until Strata Two (S2).
