Padjadjaran University established the initiative of the West Java community leaders who want the university where young people get West Java to prepare for higher education leaders in the future.
After a series of processes, then on 11 September 1957 Padjadjaran University was officially established through the Government Regulation No. 37 years old in 1957, and inaugurated by President Soekarno on 24 September 1957.
At the beginning of the establishment, Unpad only have 4 (four) faculties. Unpad at this time has developed into one of the leading universities in Indonesia, with 15 faculties and 1 Graduate. Education programs offered consist of 9 of Sciences Doctoral and 18 Master's Studies, 42 Studies Strata I (S1), 4 Program of Professional Studies, 26 Program Specialist, 1 Program Diploma (D-4), and 27 Studies Diploma ( D-3).
There are Graduate Nonreguler, the Doctor (S3) 4 of Science and Master (S2) 11 Program, which is managed by the respective faculties and programs of cooperation between institutions (Unpad with other institutions)
S1 program of 15, four of them is a new faculty, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Faculty of Industrial Technology and Agriculture developed in the academic year 2005/2006. New faculty, Faculty of Pharmacy recently developed from the Department of Pharmacy at the academic year 2006/2007 based on the importance of science and pharmacy on the high demand community of experts pharmacy.
