Early establishment of UNPAR conducted in 1962 by the Committee on Preparation The University of Central Kalimantan who get formal support from the Regional Government of Central Kalimantan. The work of the committee is the University of Central Kalimantan in the name of the University Palangka Raya PTIP inaugurated by the Minister based on the Decree No. 141 dated 10 November 1963 with three faculties namely Faculty of Economy, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. At the same time also stood IKIP Palangka Branch Bandung Raya with two faculties, namely Faculty of Education (FIP) and the Teaching Faculty of Social Sciences (FKIS). On July 24, 1969 IKIP Palangka Branch Bandung Raya is diintegrasi in UNPAR.
In the next Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Faculty of the time it is placed in Kuala Kapuas, can only be run more or less a year. In the year 1973, FKIS changed its name to the Faculty of Teaching. Therefore, until the year 1981 the University of Palangka Raya has only three faculties namely Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Science Faculty of Education and Teaching.
Recognizing the need for skilled workers in the field of agriculture and forestry in Central Kalimantan in 1981 the University Palangka Raya open a new faculty Non-Degree Faculty of Technology (FNT), which hold educational programs at three levels of diploma (D-3). In the year 1982, the Faculty of Science Faculty of Education and Teaching merged into the Faculty of Science Teaching and Education (FKIP) until now. Meanwhile, in 1991 inaugurated the Faculty of Agriculture as a Non-Degree Faculty of Technology.
In further developments, in 2000 established the Faculty of Engineering, and in 2003 founded the Faculty of Law. Thus, until now the University of Palangka Raya has five faculties namely: (1) Faculty of Economics, (2) Faculty of Science Teaching and Education, (3) Faculty of Agriculture, (4) Faculty of Engineering, and (5) Faculty of Law.
